Description

Excursion Length: Half Day

Lagos is the birth place of Prince Henry, the Navigator. Visit the Golden Church of Santo Antonio and the Slave Market

Lagos is a city rich in history and natural beauty. Well preserved, with wide pedestrian areas, parks and small corners full of colour and life, the city invites you to set out and explore.
We cannot fail to mention the guard icons of History and Art in Lagos, the chief exponents of which are the Church of Santo Antonio and the Museum of the Discoveries.
The statues of Gil Eanes, Prince Henry, the Navigator and King Sebastian, and the Triptych of the Battle of Alacer Quibir, are other points of great interest, which visitors are not to miss.

No one can resist taking a walk to Ponta da Piedade, where a lighthouse built on the site of a former chapel marks the limit between sea and land.
Nearby, there are small secluded beaches. The access is often difficult and they are chosen by nudists and those who seek a quieter spot.
Fishermen wait there, in their small and colourful boats, for passengers who wish to visit the grottos; they can name every rock as they lead you into the luminous grottos formed by the sea.
However, a good boat ride always depends on the tide...

Once in Sagres, you can see the fortress, the lighthouse, Cape St. Vincent (the most southwesterly point of mainland Europe), and also the fishing harbour.
When the weather is fair, it can be a powerful sensation to sit quietly anywhere along the cliff tops here and look out to the sea and wonder about the extraordinary adventurers who have passed this way.
